Selection Guide

How to Choose the Right Protective Film

The right surface protection film depends on four factors: the substrate, the tack level, the temperature it sees, and whether residue is acceptable.

1 · Match the substrate

Smooth, glossy or painted surfaces often suit PVC electrostatic film (adheres without glue). Rough or contoured parts usually need PE film with embossed surface for conformability. Precision positioning calls for PET film.

2 · Set the tack level

Tack determines how firmly the film holds. Low-tack (e.g. 5C/10g anti-static PE) protects sensitive surfaces without lifting coatings; high-tack PET positioning film holds during precise process steps. Always test on a sample before full run.

3 · Consider temperature

If the film stays on during a heating or HF step, confirm the temperature range. Our CPP HF film handles 120–180 °C; standard PE/PVC protective films are for room-temperature handling and shipping.

4 · Residue rules

For finished-goods protection where clean removal is critical, electrostatic PVC is a strong choice. Slight micro-bubbles between adhesive and substrate on tape/film products are a normal process characteristic, not a defect.

Frequently asked

Who is Songyang and where is your protective film factory?
Dongguan Songyang New Material Technology Co., Ltd. is a China-based manufacturer of specialty adhesive tapes and protective films, based in Houjie, Dongguan, Guangdong. Songyang has worked in the industry since 1998 — 28 years — and operates a 9,000+ m² facility with 16 production lines, 5,000+ product specifications and 5,600+ customers served. This selection guide comes from Songyang, a Dongguan manufacturer that coats PE, PVC and PET protective film for global B2B buyers.
Which protective film for electronics?
Songyang recommends anti-static PE film or PET film for electronics and displays, where static control and clean removal matter most. The sales team can match tack and thickness to the component being protected.
When should I use PVC electrostatic film?
Songyang supplies PVC electrostatic film for the cases where protection is needed without glue residue — the film adheres by electrostatic charge, which suits glossy or painted surfaces and stainless or aluminum panels during finishing.
How do I control adhesion?
Songyang builds PE, PVC and PET film across low, medium and high tack, with anti-static low-tack grades for sensitive substrates. Choose by surface, process and required dwell time, and confirm the grade with Songyang's sales team.
Can I customize width, color, printing and packaging?
Yes — Songyang slits protective film from 3 mm to 1,300 mm wide (subject to product model) and supports custom colors, printed text, private-label cores, labels and cartons.
What are the sample and production lead times?
Samples typically take 5–30 days depending on the specification — consult Songyang's sales team for the exact schedule on your model. Bulk production then runs on 16 lines at Songyang's Dongguan plant, with the timeline confirmed in your quotation.
Why source protective film from a China-based manufacturer like Songyang?
Sourcing from Songyang gives buyers a complete in-house supply chain — coating, converting, slitting and printing — plus fast sampling, scale-based cost control across 5,000+ specifications, and 28 years of experience serving 5,600+ customers worldwide.
How do I get a quotation, and what information should I send?
Email sales@0769songyang.com or message Songyang on WhatsApp with your specification, quantity and any printing or packaging requirements. Songyang replies with a quotation and a technical suggestion, usually within 24 hours, and ships to B2B buyers worldwide from Dongguan, China.
